Construction Consultant Achieves Chartered Fellowship of CIOB
Cube's co-founder and director, construction management consultant, Mark Johnston has been admitted as a Fellow by the Chartered Institute of Building, the world’s largest and most influential professional body for construction management and leadership.
With a career in construction management spanning 30 years, Mark Johnston MCIOB, NECReg has progressed from site manager into operations management and onto independent consultancy providing valuable strategic support for nationwide projects. His construction DNA is on the operation and delivery side, driving projects to successful completion.
Chartered Fellowship of the CIOB has been independently benchmarked at master’s degree level and represents the highest grade of membership within the organisation, recognising an individual’s impact, experience and ability. It demonstrates to clients and colleagues across the industry a level of experience, knowledge and commitment to an ethical approach.
To achieve Fellowship status, applicants must demonstrate at least 5 years of experience leading an organisation, people and contributing to the industry, communities or society. These responsibilities must also extend to working with sector stakeholders and demonstrating a contribution to the wider industry or the general public.
Eligible candidates must attend an online workshop and submit a written assessment, which reflects on a project they have led. The final stage is attending a professional interview panel of industry peers.
On the accolade, Mark Johnston commented: “It has been a long standing personal and professional ambition to achieve a Chartered Fellowship at the CIOB. At Cube, we support construction businesses with building best practice into every element of construction and helping them to put processes in place which demonstrate competence, under the obligations within the Building Safety Act. What better way to demonstrate a high level of assessed competence than the CIOB Fellowship programme?”
“For our clients this is a real validation and assurance of our industry expertise - both as a Chartered Construction Management Consultancy and myself as a fellow. CIOB Fellows are expected to adhere to high ethical standards, which include honesty, fairness and respect for the public interest. They are also expected to be accountable for their actions and decisions and to act with integrity in all professional dealings. These are aligned with the values we have always upheld at Cube.”
An individual CIOB member since 2002, a highlight for Mark and co-founder Nicola Slater was Cube becoming a CIOB Chartered Construction Management Consultancy in 2021, further demonstrating their ongoing commitment to the principles and values of best practice, ethical standards and professionalism. Mark is also currently an active board member and vice- chair of the Nottingham Hub of the CIOB in the East Midlands.
Cube celebrated its fifth business anniversary at the end of 2024, over which time they have helped regional and tier 1 contractors protect margins, complete significant projects on time, reduce client frustrations and mitigate project risk. More recently Cube has delivered training in construction management and the Building Safety Act to more than 1,000 construction professionals and supported teams to implement competence into their constriction processes.
A CIOB graduation will be held on 12th September 2025 at Drapers' Hall in London.
